A tradition of hand-shaped clay
The villages of Thoubal district have shaped clay by hand, without a wheel, for as long as anyone has counted. Parables works in that lineage.
Four years of development
We spent four years taking that material somewhere it had never been. In a NECTAR-funded project we developed a proprietary clay body, dug and processed within Manipur, that vitrifies in the kiln and seals itself. It needs no glaze, no pigment and no chemical flux.
Only a handful of places have ever made pottery like this: Yixing in China, and Bizen and Tokoname in Japan. Now Manipur does too, with nothing imported and no technique licensed from abroad.
Recognition
In 2023 Parables was chosen as a gift for delegates at the G20 Manipur Summit, and received the State Award for contribution to Modern Terracotta, Manipur.
